Assistant Professor Dr Erdoğan Saraçoğlu, a lecturer at the NEU Faculty of Turkish Language and Literature, on Wednesday 1 April gave a conference at the auditorium for year 12 students.
The conference focused on the work of famous Turkish poet Orhan Veli Kanık as well as his esteemed place and value in the Turkish style of poetry in the republican period. Assistant Professor Dr Saraçoğlu presented examples to reflect the quality of Kanık’s choice of language as well as his natural style and his extremely rich vocabulary, which had shed light on the path of many poets who had followed his footsteps.
The students found the conference enlightening, enjoyed listening to the examples provided by Saraçoğlu and they learnt about the lifestyle of a poet who had put his mark on Turkish literature. Headmaster Işılay Arkan and his Chief Deputy Aplay Ertaç were among those who enjoyed the conference. After answering many questions asked by the students, Saraçoğlu ended what turned out to be a very interesting and colourful conference. He promised to come back for more.
