Near East College Observation and Research Club students visited the Cyprus Car Museum in the museum area of the Near East University campus.
Club students were informed about the cars in the museum and the formation process of the Cyprus Car Museum by the museum director during the visit.
According to the information provided by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the students, who learned the history of the vehicles used from past to present, showed great interest especially in sports cars exhibited in the museum. Students also examined with great interest the model cars and decorations exhibited in the museum.
In the collection of the Cyprus Car Museum, students examining over 150 different cars, including the oldest car which is a 1899 model Crestmobile, carefully examined the 1919 American Whipped-brand car with the Wolseley car which is the only sample in the world over 100 years old. In the museum, the 1949 Jaguar XK 120, which was the first mass production car to pass over the 300 km speed limit, also attracted great attention.
During the trip, the students were also informed about some vehicles which are among the most important cars of the collection; the Austing Princess which was used by the Vice President Dr. Fazıl Küçük in 1960. Students were informed, British made Austin Princess was presented to Dr. Fazıl Küçük by III. Makarios, the President of the bicommunal Republic of Cyprus and by the late British governor, Sir Hugh Foot. Students taking pictures in the museum with the cars experienced an enjoyable and memorable experience. The club students were very happy to see such valuable and important cars during their visit.
