Near East College has brought a new championship into 2023, which is full of world and European championships, Turkish rankings, TRNC records and championships achieved in academic and sports fields. Near East College Boys’ Handball Team, which became the champion in the “Inter-High School Boys’ Handball Competitions” organized by the Ministry of National Education, made their families and schools proud again.

Near East College Boys’ Handball Team, which trained for the championship with its teachers Mustafa Özpolili and Gültekin Gülman, completed the group stages with two wins and one loss and made its way to the semi-finals. Near East College MenBoys’ Handball Team, consisting of Fikri Asal, Kıvanç Buba, Deran Çöllo, Efe Sıddık, Halil Gazelci, Sami Karasalih, Demir Çöllo, Mehmet Kurtoğlu, Ahmet Pampuroğluları, Alp Paça, Efe Özaltay, Hasan Bensel, Mustafa Hısım, Batu Adalıer, Arif Savoğlu, Şükrü Sağlamer, and Hasan Hidayet who are 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th year students of Near East College,  defeated Nicosia Turkish High School 24-23 in the semi-finals and became the opponent of Hala Sultan Theological College in the final.

Young athletes of Near East College, who defeated their opponent 28-27 in the final match, declared their championship in the Inter-High School Boys’ Handball Competitions.

Near East College Boys’ Handball Team, which became the TRNC champion in the “Inter-High School Boys’ Handball Competitions” organized by the Ministry of National Education, was entitled to represent the TRNC in the group matches to be held in Karaman, Turkey between 14-20 January 2024. If they successfully pass the group stage in Turkey, the Near East College Boys’ Handball Team will continue to represent the TRNC in the Turkey finals.

Stating that the Near East College Boys’ Handball Team made them feel great pride by becoming the TRNC champion in the Inter-High School Boys’ Handball Competitions, Near East College Principal Ömer Özkan said, “I wholeheartedly congratulate our students and teachers who contributed to this great success.”

“Supporting our students in academic and sports fields and contributing to their individual and collective development is one of our main priorities as Near East College,” said Ömer Özkan, adding, “The successes of our students in academic and sports fields in 2023 made us feel great pride. The victories we have achieved are extremely important as they show that our students have adopted the important values we instilled in them, such as discipline, leadership and team spirit.”

Ömer Özkan said, “I congratulate each of our students for the success they have achieved in their own fields,” and added that they wish success to the Near East College Boys’ Handball Team for the matches they will do in Turkey.
