In order to prepare students aware of public issues and participate in local solution, be part of projects and accumulate knowledge on history; as well as raise them as sensitive individuals who value communal issues, Near East College Observation and Research Club students visited the Committee on Missing Persons Turkish Office.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Archaeologist Demet Karşılı and Genetic Specialist Gülbanu Gökbulut informed the Near East College students regarding the historical background of the committee, the missing people and their families during their visit to the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP).
It was stated that during 1963-1974, Cyprus, the Turkish and Greek Cypriots who had gone missing are sought by the CMP and provided information of the procedures regarding the recovered bones.
Making a statement regarding the matter, Principal of Near East College, Asım İdris, stated that there were two different ethnic groups residing on the island of Cyprus and no matter what the religion, beliefs and language is spoken, we were all human and the same sort of sorrow was encountered by both the Turkish and the Greek Cypriots. Asım İdris ended his words by stating how beneficial the trip to the Committee on Missing Persons Turkish Office had been to the NEC students.
