Near East Colleges announced that due to the increasing pandemic cases caused by Omicron variant of Cov-19 online education in kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school levels will be implemented between 6-15 January


It was emphasized in the “SARS-CoV-2 Omicron Variant Surveillance and Risk Assessment Technical Information Report in Northern Cyprus” announced by the Near East University yesterday that due to the continuing spread of Omicron-induced COVID-19 cases in the TRNC, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the country could reach 2,000 at the end of January. A few hours later, the number of daily cases announced by the Ministry of Health reached 700, breaking a record as if confirming this warning.

It has been announced that due to the increasing risk, Near East College, Near East Yeniboğaziçi College and Dr. Suat Günsel Kyrenia College have decided to switch to distance education at the kindergarten primary, secondary and high school levels starting tomorrow. Schools, which will continue their education activities online as of Thursday, January 6, will return to normal education on Monday, January 17.

Vice-Rector in charge of Near East Primary and Secondary Education Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan announced the decision saying; “Taking into account the COVID-19 cases that have escalated due to the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 and the warnings of scientists that the number of daily cases in our country may reach 2,000, we have decided to switch to online education between 6-15 January in our primary, secondary and high schools in Nicosia, Yeniboğaziçi and Kyrenia.”

“The health of our students, teachers and parents is our top priority,” saying Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan emphasized; “We will continue our education activities without interruption in this period when we will switch to online education with the technical infrastructure we have.”
