24th November Teachers Day was celebrated in ceremonies held in the NEC middle school and GCE buildings. The ceremonies began with a minutes silence observed in memory of Turkish national leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all martyr teachers during the Turkish Cypriot national struggle.

In a speech she delivered, NEC Turkish Language and Literature teacher Pınar Esendağlı pointed out that 24 November has been observed in Turkey and the TRNC as Teachers Day ever since 1981, when Atatürk was presented with the title of Head Teacher of all National Schools.

The ceremony continued with poems read by the students and concluded with the presentation of a bouquet to Headmaster Işılay Arkan on behalf of all students.
