NEC contenders of the photography contest titled “Life in Cyprus Through the Eyes of Children” jointly organised by Telsim and Cyprus Turkish Photography Association (FODER), won three prizes and 29 exhibition rights.
According to information released by the NEU Press and Public Affairs Office, the contest took place at the İsmet Vehit Güney Exhibition Hall. Public Works and Transportation Minister Hasan Taçoy, FODER leader Mehmet Gökyiğit and Telsim Deputy Manager Fevzi Tanpınar were present.
Minister Taçoy congratulated the participating children for their contributions and thanked the organisers. FODER leader Gökyiğit expressed the significance of co-operation between NGOs and the private sector while Telsim Deputy Manager Tanpınar explained that they had organised the event in view of the fact that children constituted the future of the country.
A total of 90 children participated in the competition with 325 submissions. Three prizes were handed out at the primary school level and an additional three at the secondary school level. One contribution won the Telsim Special Prize.
THE NEC TEAM
From the NEC team, guided by their teacher and photography artist Duyal Tüzün, Fergül Karakartal won the first prize in the secondary school category, while Doğa Kaptanoğlu and Merin Aşıcıoğlu won the second and third prizes respectively.
EXHIBITION
In addition to these prizes, 29 photographs submitted by 19 NEC students won the right to be part of the exhibition. These photographs belonged to Biran Dağyaran, Merin Aşıcıoğlu, İzlem Zahiye Hançerli, Ayşe Yasmin Ratip, Umut Çengi, Emirali Ruso, Ahmet Kofalı, Doğa Kaptanoğlu, Derviş Yusuf Bekar, Fergül Karakartal, Baran Fikri Sıtkıoğulları, Lara Gün, Neyire Damla Aykent, Ece Ecesoy, Aleyna Can, Açelya Can, Didem Sevil Kasapoğlu, Umay Kararlı and Alkan Çapakcı.
The revenues of the exhibition will be forwarded to the Leukaemia Children Foundation. The photographs are to be sold at 50 TL each. The exhibition involves a total of 117 photographs. It will remain open until Sunday 14 June. Visiting hours will be 10 am to 5 pm.
