Near East College students, swimming for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the swimming races held in Turkey returned to the country with 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals and broke three new records in their age categories. Continuing their education lives at Near East College with Dr. Suat Günsel Scholarship, Akman Tüzünkan, Erten Kasımoğlu, Deniz Bender and Barkan Cem Aykut successfully represented our country in the races organized by the Turkish Swimming Federation.
Near East College 8th-year students Barkan Cem Aykut and Deniz Bender raced at the Turkish Arena Short Course Swimming Championship organized by the Turkish Swimming Federation in Istanbul, on the other hand, 6th-year students Akman Tüzünkan and Erten Kasımoğlu represented the TRNC in the Turkish Swimming Federation 11-year-old National Development League Turkey Final Races held in Samsun on 9-11 December.

A 6th-year student at Near East College and continuing his education with the Dr. Suat Günsel Scholarship, 11-year-old Akman Tüzünkan won a total of 4 medals, 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, in the 11-year-old National Development League Turkey Final Races in Turkey. Achieving scores of 00.35.44 in 50 meters backstroke, 100 meters backstroke and 200 meters backstroke, respectively, Tüzünkan, who broke the TRNC long track 11 age records with scores of 01.18.65 and 02.55.71, beat the Turkish A3 dam in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke categories. He also succeeded to pass the Turkish A2 threshold in the 100-meter backstroke category and the Turkish A1 threshold in the 200-meter backstroke category, qualifying for 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

Again, the Near East College’s Dr. Erten Kasımoğlu, a 6th-year student studying with a Suat Günsel Scholarship, passed the Turkey A1 threshold with a time of 00.33.14 in the 50-meter freestyle category and 01.14.49 in the 100-meter category in the same tournament held in Samsun, and won two bronze medals.
Barkan Cem Aykut, who broke the 50 meters breaststroke age record, came 5th in Turkey!
Near East College 8th-year students Barkan Cem Aykut and Deniz Bender, who raced in the Turkish Arena Short Course Swimming Championship organized by the Turkish Swimming Federation in Istanbul, also succeeded in passing the 13-year-old Turkish thresholds in the categories they raced in. Barkan Cem Aykut, who broke the TRNC short course 13-14 age record with a time of 00.32.78 in the 50 meters breaststroke category, also came 5th in his category in Turkey. Barkan Cem Aykut passed the Turkish threshold in the 100 meters and 200 meters breaststroke categories.
The young record holders representing the TRNC in the competitions organized by the Turkish Swimming Federation trained for the races under the coaching of Avni Cankurt, one of the trainers of the Near East University Olympic Swimming Pool.
