The first phase of earthquake analyses carried out by the Near East University Structure and Soil Analysis Laboratory in the school buildings that provide education from kindergarten to high school at Near East College, Near East Yeniboğaziçi College and Dr. Suat Günsel Kyrenia College has been completed.

The earthquakes that took place in Turkey once again reminded us of the earthquake risk, one of the most important facts of our region. The most important issue that earthquake experts agree on the common denominator regarding the earthquake risk borne by the TRNC is the necessity of conducting earthquake analyses by examining the existing building stock. Undoubtedly, measuring the earthquake resistance of school buildings, where our children, our most precious beings, receive education, is one of the most important priorities.

The Near East University Building and Soil Analysis Laboratory, which measures the earthquake risk of buildings with the tests it performs with its strong infrastructure and competent expert staff, also completed the first phase of earthquake analysis of all school buildings from kindergarten to high school at the Near East College, Near East Yeniboğaziçi College and Dr. Suat Günsel Girne College.

The results meet the material quality predicted in the projects
In the examinations carried out by the experts of the Near East University Building and Soil Analysis Laboratory in the school buildings on the three campuses of the Near East Colleges; Core concrete samples taken from all school buildings were subjected to compressive strength tests. Tests with core and shmit-hammer methods revealed that the school buildings have a concrete quality above the project values. The same buildings were also scanned with equipment scanning devices and it was reported that the use of equipment was suitable for the project.

After the first phase of the study was completed, Near East College, Near East Yeniboğaziçi College and Dr. Suat Günsel Kyrenia College school buildings, although not compulsory, building performance evaluation studies have started through which computer-aided earthquake scenarios will be applied.

The video presentation in which the Near East University Building and Soil Analysis Laboratory explains the results of the analyzes carried out at the school buildings was shared with the parents via the link https://e-studybox.com/fullscreen-view/61361/61460.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan: “I am happy to share that in the first tests completed in our schools, we achieved results above the standards envisaged in the projects in terms of material and floor quality.”
Reminding that the Near East Colleges provide education at all levels from kindergarten to high school with Nicosia, Kyrenia and Yeniboğaziçi campuses as the biggest primary and secondary education institution of the TRNC, Near East Colleges Chairman of the Board and Near East University Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said, “We measured the earthquake performance of all our school buildings, where our children, our most precious beings, receive education. I am happy to share that we achieved results above the standards set by earthquake regulations in terms of materials and ground, in the first tests completed in our schools, most of which consist of new buildings."
