The Near East College Visited the Committee on Missing Persons, Turkish Cypriot Members Office

The Near East College Historical Research Club was established aiming  to help students  prepare projects and participate in solving problems of today's society while adding to their knowledge of history. So, the club visited the Committee on Missing Persons, Turkish Cypriot members office.

The students were informed by archaeologist Demet Karsili, Genetic Expert Gulbanu Gokbukut and Committee assistant Mine Balman, who work at the committee, about the history of the committee, missing people and there families. Also, they were given a presentation on the committee’s work.

The students were impressed with the information they were given about how the bodies of the missing Turkish and Greek Cypriots (who went missing during 1963-1974 in Cyprus) were found and the stages the bones went through in order to be identified.

The teachers working on the club said “ even though there are two different ethnic groups on the island who speak different languages and have different religions and beliefs, they share the same loss and happiness.” They emphasised that it had been a very beneficial cultural school trip for the students.
