The Near East College Social Responsibility Club is continuing with its many activities. There first act of kindness was to visit the animal shelter located in Lefkosa’s industrial area. The club members donated food to the shelter bought with money donated by students and teachers. North Cyprus Animal Cruelty Preventing Society chairman Tomris Guven, thanked the Near East College administration, teachers and students for making donations every year and asked everyone to support the shelter which is home to 300 animals. Teachers of the Near East College Social Responsibility Club said “caring for animals plays an important part in child development. It helps children become social adults who can easily adapt to society. It also has a positive effect on their emotional maturity. They learn that animals are not things to be bought and sold so, it is up to parents and educators to set a good example” they emphasised that children growing up with computers, expensive toys and similar items grow up to be selfish, insensitive and sometimes cruel. Therefore, as the Near East College, we believe activities such as this one will influence the younger generation into becoming sensitive and compassionate towards nature and animals.Video
