Near East College Social Responsibility Club students visited the Nicosia Animal Shelter due to October 4th October World Animal Day; an international day to raise awareness and protect the rights of animals by improving animal welfare.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, at the helm of their teachers, Near East College Social Responsibility Club students went to the animal shelter in Nicosia, which is located in the Nicosia Industrial Zone and presented food and hygiene products that they had collected from the authorities, teachers and students.
While visiting the animal shelter the Near East College students were provided information regarding the work done at the shelter and the stray animals hosted. Furthermore, they were provided detailed information on the care, welfare of stray animals, adoption regulations and procedures; alongside what could be done to support them.
It was pointed out that during the Near East College students’ visit to the shelter, Head of Northern Cyprus Animal Protection Association Tomris Güven was there and that the students enjoyed their visit and took a photo all together to remember the day.

Making a short speech during the visit, Head of Northern Cyprus Animal Protection Association Tomris Güven stated that the animal shelter was currently hosting 300 animals and she expressed many thanks to Near East College authorities, teachers and students for visiting them every year and asked people to be more aware and sensitive about animals in need.

Near East College Social Responsibility Club Teachers expressed that planting seeds of love for animals in childhood was a very significant aspect in a child’s development and a critical value which needs to be developed in individuals so as to raise them socially responsible beings.
