In order to raise awareness and promote science among the youth studying at secondary schools in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Middle East Technical University-Northern Cyprus Campus held the science festival themed on "Science is Fun in Cyprus". ÖSS Science Department grade 11 students of Near East College participated in this significant event.
Students along with their Biology teachers Nezire Güzen Şensoy, Gülşah Yarman and Nazire Kinsiz participated in the experiments and had a nice day full of fun and science. The science festival provided platform for students to participate in a wide variety of events including experiments on physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, and seminars on astronomy, alternative energy resources and the end-point reached in Cyprus Problem and its impact on the youth. The Science Festival, which based on the principle of learning by touching, doing, experiencing and having fun, had a crucial role in promoting science to new generations and attracting their interest towards scientific studies and fields of research. The festival also encouraged the new generation to take concrete steps on the route of becoming a scientist. Student-group shows and a science competition were held within the scope of the festival. Near East College has become the winner of the Science Competition that held annually among secondary school students in order to promote and encourage new generations’ interest to science.

In her remarks regarding the Science Festival, the teacher in charge of the ÖSS Science Department students, Nezire Şensoy stated that such events had a significant role in encouraging the students to develop their analytical thinking process and abilities.
Underlining that Near East College attached a special importance on providing quality education in compliance with standards set by national and international bodies, Şenşoy stated that it was their primary vision to direct the students' energies towards science and technology through activities that they carried out at school. "One of the basic aims of the education that we provide as Near East College is to demolish the understanding that science is a collection of knowledge and replace it with the understanding that science is everywhere around us and we can get it” said she.
