Near East College Student becomes the first European Champion in Taekwondo in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus


Near East College 12th Year Student Yaren Yuvka became the European Champion of the greenbelt GTF 16th Eurasia Taekwondo Championship held in our country.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the GTF 16th Eurasia Championship was held with the participation of 80 athletes from 9 different countries at the Kyrenia Eurasia Taekwondo Centre and Near East College student Yaren Yuvka won a triumph over her opponents and became the European Champion.

It was stated that Yaren Yuvka will be representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus via the Kyrenia Eurasia Taekwondo Centre at a competition to be held in the United States in February, 2018 and that she had started making preparations for her match.

In addition to the above, it was further stated that students at the Near East College had congratulated her for becoming the European Champion of the GTF 16th Eurasia Taekwondo Championship and that a ceremony was held on her achievement and Near East College teachers and students applauded her with joy.


She owes her success to discipline...

Senior Assistant Principal of Near East College, Alpay Ertaç, stated that they were highly proud both as a Turkish Cypriot and as part of the Near East University family with Yaren Yuvka. Alpay Ertaç emphasised Near East University’s strong belief regarding discipline behind every academic success as well as other achievements; and that sports was a requisite for all students. Once again, he congratulated Yaren Yuvka and wished her the best in the competition which she will be attending in the United States.

Making a statement on the matter, Head of Department of Sports at the Near East College Hüseyin Reis they were very proud to see Yaren Yuvka who successfully represented both her school, the Near East College and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He added that it was an enormous success to observe the flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to be raised before the eyes of European countries. He emphasised that our country needed more athletes to make such achievements and they, as the Near East College always provided their full support to their students.
