A Basketball Championship was held among Near East College Year 6 and 7 Students


Department of Physical Education held a Basketball Championship among the year 6 and year 7 students of Near East College.

It was revealed that the championship was held over two weeks and a total of 30 matches were played. Resultantly, the champion and the first and second runner up teams were awarded cups. Furthermore, it was expressed that the matches were played quite competitively and from year 6 girls, Class 6L became the champion, Class 6K became the first runner up whereas Class 6E became the second runner up. On the other hand, year 6 boys’ championship resulted with Class 6E as the Champion, Class 6K became the first runner up ad Class 6C became the second runner up.

Looking at year 7 girls, Class 7M became the Champion, Class 7C became the first runner up and Class 7Y became the second runner up whereas from the year 7 boys, 7D became the champion, Class 7C first runner up and Class 7R became the second runner up.


Team sports nurture their self-confidence…
Near East College Middle School Principle Ömer Özkan made a statement regarding the matter and expressed that they, as a school, wanted to nurture positive habits in youngsters and protect them from bad habits by enabling them to direct their energies to positive fields such as sports. Furthermore, he added that team sports nurtured students’ self-confidence, alongside contributing to their social development.

In addition to the above, Middle School Principle Ömer Özkan stated that organising events alike provided support to students as their stress and tension built up to lessons. Furthermore, he expressed their strong belief that if students learn to work towards a goal in their lives, they could learn that achieving success in lessons go hand in hand with achieving success in sports.
