Near East College held a glorious ceremony to mark the 95th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the building which houses the GCE classes and the classes of the 6th and 7th grade students was the venue of the Republic Day ceremony. It was stated that the ceremony, which began with a moment in silence in memory of the founder of Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and martyrs, followed by the National Anthem. Within the scope of the Republic Day, Kezban Demirelişçi, history teacher at Near East College, delivered a speech titled "Republic".

In her remarks, Demirelişçi stated that republic was the best system that develops democracy in accordance with the rule of law under a constitutional law. She also underlined the crucial role of republic in opening the horizon, revealing the creative power of the Turkish people and introducing the concepts and values of the contemporary world.

Highlighting that the founder of the Republic of Turkey, and national hero, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a farsighted leader, Demirelişçi reminded that Atatürk considered the republic as the most valuable treasure of the Turkish youth. "In his address to the Turkish youth, Atatürk warned the Turkish youth about the possible internal and external enemies who will want to deprive them of this treasure by subverting the republic, dividing and breaking up the country. Atatürk entrusted the republic to the Turkish youth and asked them to defend and preserve the republic without considering the conditions and circumstances that they are in”. Demirelişçi ended her remarks by commemorating Atatürk and his fellow fighters, martyrs and veterans with respect and gratitude.

Following the speech explaining the meaning and importance of the Republic Day, an oratorio called "29 October" was performed by students and received great admiration of the audiences. Following the oratorio, the school chorus sang anthems. While singing the İzmir Anthem with enthusiasm, the opening of Atatürk's picture caused emotional moments to peak at the ceremony.

Within the scope of 29 October Republic Day events, composition, poetry and board competitions will also be held at the Near East College.
