How do “Cambridge English for Schools” exams help your child learn English?

These exams  were designed and developed with the aim of motivating students in the first and second stages of basic education . They cover all four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. These exams contribute to the learning process by covering the subjects that children know and developing the skills they need to have in line with the purposes stated below.

There are free and fun learning activities that your child can do alone, with other students, and with you as a family. In addition, many practical exams and support materials are provided to help your child prepare for the exam.

Which Cambridge English exam is the right exam for your child?
  • Your child can progress through a series of carefully structured exams to help develop all four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
    Taking exams at the right level, from beginner to advanced, and being successful in these exams will help your child gain self-confidence. Your child will become more skilled and more fluent in English at every step.All their exams are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) , an internationally recognized standard for describing language ability   . This makes it easier for employers and educational institutions to see children's  progress in English  and understand their skills when they finish school.

(CEFR pre-A1, A1, A2 Levels) Three fun, activity-based quizzes to

Cambridge English: Key (KET) for Schools 

(CEFR Level A2) It shows
that your child  can use everyday English at a basic level  .

Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) for Schools 

(CEFR B1 Level)

Cambridge English: First (FCE) for Schools 

(CEFR Level B2) It shows that your child can use daily written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level
for business or educational purposes  .

(CEFR Level C1) is an internationally recognized standard
for studying and working in English-speaking countries  .

(CEFR C2 Level)

Learn more about how children learn English

The way your children learn depends on several factors ,  including age, personality and learning style:

  • Some children are extremely visually oriented and prefer pictures; Therefore, picture books will be useful for these children. Others prefer hands-on and logical activities; Therefore, puzzles and problem-solving based games will be more effective.
  • Some children are social and learn well in groups, while others prefer quieter, one-on-one learning.
  • Different children's concentration times will differ from each other.
  • Additionally, the ways girls and boys learn languages may differ.

As a parent, you know what is best for your child; Therefore, you can adapt methods and activities to support your child in learning English.

We are committed to continuing to gain the deepest possible understanding of the ways children learn English. In this way, we can ensure that we continue to effectively support students' language learning, provide accurate learning materials and conduct examinations fairly and accurately.

Cambridge English Language Assessment's research team has carried out a thorough and rigorous study to understand in detail how children learn vocabulary, master grammar and gain confidence in speaking and writing in a language. They also examine how exams support a candidate in writing, listening, reading and speaking outside the classroom in the “real world”.

We have a learning-oriented approach to assessment. Learning focused assessment (LOA); It includes well-established forms of assessment, such as both setting goals and measuring achievement, as well as ongoing classroom assessment, including remediation, feedback, self-monitoring, and reflection. This is exactly where assessment and learning meet. LOA creates the learning environment by proving to students that they are progressing towards their goals and setting assignments at the most appropriate difficulty level. It drives learning mechanisms through purposeful communication activities, making new language accessible, and personalizing feedback. The LOA does not divide assessment into 'general' and 'formal' as it sees all assessment as beneficial to learning. Every assessment creates an opportunity for learning, and every learning activity is an opportunity to review, share feedback, record, and reflect.
